Several women from different municipalities in Abidjan have organized demonstrations against the country representative of UN Women, according to local media.
At issue is the “contempt” of UN-Women’s representative, Mrs. Marie Goretti Nduwayo, towards her domestic workers. According to the demonstrators interviewed by the Koaci.com website, some of them were wrongfully dismissed by the UN official. “She has the right to defend us, unfortunately, it is she who makes us cry. Whereas today we women are the pillars of our homes. It is us who teach our children through our small activities, “said Mrs. Soro Nawa, president of a women’s association.
The angry women attest that the UN diplomat does not respect the pay of her domestic workers according to the SMIG fixed at 60,000 F CFA (91 euros). In addition, she has been owes wages for two years.
The protesters claim to have resorted to this route because justice has always “proven right” the diplomat despite all the lawsuits filed against her. It was with placards bearing the words “Madame Goretti, whyare you heartless, pay the rights of your domestic workers” that these ladies wanted to be heard.
