A Malawian national was brought before a Malian judge on Thursday (June 15th) who charged her with “international drug trafficking”. She was arrested at Bamako airport with more than ten kilograms of heroin.
The plane had just arrived in Mali from Malawi via Ethiopia. On the luggage treadmill, two double-bottom suitcases are uncovered. Customs and the Central Office for Narcotics were on the alert.
The luggage owner was arrested. After submitting to a throughout search of her luggage, in his presence, nearly 11 kilos of heroin are discovered. This is the first time at the airport of Bamako. Value of the goods: more than half a billion CFA francs.
Arrested, the 41-year-old Malawi national refused to speak. She was charged and jailed on Thursday for international drug trafficking. “We notice that in, there are derivatives of these products which are often in circulation in all forms of tablets in Bamako nowadays … It is possible that the product is released for consumption in Bamako, as Bamako can simply be a transit zone, “explains the prosecutor of the Judicial Pole specializing in the fight against transnational organized crime, Boubacar Sidiki Samaké.
