The Senegalese government will mobilize an emergency food assistance fund of FCFA 1.4 billion for food assistance to 42,741 households.
According to Government spokesman Seydou Guèye 341,929 people identified in the six food insecure departments of Bambey, Malem Hoddar, Matam, Kanel, Goudiry and Tambacounda are targeted.
After a meeting on Tuesday which brought together financial and technical partners, rural stakeholders, consumer associations and the Government, the Prime Minister Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne chaired the Inter-Ministerial Council on Food Security.
This meeting included the adoption of the implementation of an emergency plan in the most exposed departments and the mobilization of the resources necessary for the implementation of the contingency plan, with a view to human beings and livestock concerned.
The envelope will allow the distribution of supplies during the three-month lean period from June to August 2017; The implementation of a livestock safeguard operation (OSB), within one month, with a distribution of parasitic and a subsidized sale of livestock feed.
