The Nigeria Union of Journalists strongly condemned the increase in cases of unverified news, which it said undermines the integrity of the Union and the profession.

In a communiqué issued after its central working committee, CWC, meeting, in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, North East of Nigeria, February 18, the NUJ disassociated itself from such “unprofessional conduct.”

The union commends the Federal Government for initiating the whistle blowing policy that is helping the fight against corruption and recovery of looted funds and appealed that the funds be channelled towards the promotion of maternal health.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists affirms the call for upward review of the minimum wage by the organised labour and said is in line with the current economic realities and called on the Federal Government to find alternative means of transporting petrol products across the country to curb the loss of lives and properties occasioned by increased fuel tanker accidents.
